About Us




Dr. Jerry Gilbert, owner and lead auctioneer at Gilbert and Company, LLC, is a graduate of the Missouri Auction School and of the Certified Appraisers Guild of America's course of study.  In addition, he holds the Certified Estate Specialist and the Benefit Auctioneer Specialist designations of the National Auctioneers Association and has completed course work for their Auction Technology Specialist and Graduate Personal Property Appraiser designations.  Gilbert has also completed the 15 hour course required for preparation of USPAP compliant certified personal property appraisals.  Enjoying working the crowd as much as calling bids, Gilbert has also completed the Professional Ringmen's Institute class.  In addition to his work with Gilbert and Company, LLC, Dr. Gilbert serves as lead auctioneer for his wife Sheila's benefit auction company, Bountiful Benefits, does contract auctioneering and ring work, teachs at the Jacksonville State University Auctioneer School, and teachs a regular continuing education class on appraising at J.S.U.  Dr. Gilbert is a member of the National Auctioneers Association, the Alabama Auctioneers Association, and the Certified Appraisers Guild of America.  He is a licensed and bonded auctioneer in Alabama, License # 1847.  In his earlier life Dr. Gilbert, a native of West Texas and graduate of Texas Tech University, was a professor and department head (Political Science) at Jacksonville State (1971-2000.)




Sheila Degan Gilbert owns and operates her own benefit auction company, Bountiful Benefits, but also serves many vital roles at Gilbert and Company, LLC.  She clerks and/or cashiers when needed, helps with the books, rings and whatever else needs doing.  In fact, if not officially, she functions as our COO.  Sheila, who completed the Professional Ringmen's Institute course and the National Auctioneers Association's Benefit Auctioneer Specialist class, is very much a people person and is very important to our public image.  A native of West Texas and graduate of Texas Tech University, she taught school for many years, then served several years as district director for a U.S. Congressman, and was for over a decade the principal executive assistant to the project manager for a major government contractor. 




Jerri Lynn Hulsey, our cashier, is a retired teacher.  She is co-owner of Valley Antiques antique mall in Alexandria, AL and has a long background in the buying and selling of antiques and collectibles, as well as prior auction work. 



Marcia McNeill works as our clerk.  She is retired from the U.S. Civil Service and has long been involved with antiques and collectibles, with a special emphasis on glassware.  In addition to having booths in several antique malls, Marcia is co-owner of Valley Antiques located in Alexandria, AL.
